With each movement in your belly and with each new experience since you first knew you were pregnant you are experiencing only beginning of this amazing journey know as motherhood! You will hug, play, laugh and love like you never imagined before. It is so important to treasure all those lovely memories forever. I would love to help you capture your love story and your family memories! You can find out all about the different Newborn Sessions that I offer here. If you have already booked a newborn session with me here’s all the info you will need to help you prepare for your baby’s newborn session.
Scheduling your session
Newborn portraits are different than any other that your baby will ever have. Photographing your baby during the first two weeks of life allows me to capture your baby’s newness. You will forever treasure these memories of just how little your baby was! Your newborn session is scheduled in advance based on your due date. The final date and time gets set once you have the baby. I recommend contacting me very soon after baby is born so we can arrange the best time for the photo shoot.
Preparing your home
Newborn Sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. This will ensure that you and baby are comfortable and relaxed during the session. Because your home will be the backdrop for some of the photos please ensure that your home is clean and free of distractions. When I arrive, I will walk through your home to determine the best spot for lighting. We will need to do the photo shoot in a room with lots of good natural light. So, a room with 1 or 2 large windows will work best. It also helps to adjust your thermostat slightly warmer than normal to keep baby nice and warm during the session. Only those being photographed should be present. It is best not to plan to have visitors during the session.
Preparing your baby
A well fed baby is a happy, sleepy baby! Please try to feed baby either right before or right after I arrive. If your baby is sleeping when I arrive, that is perfect. Please do not try to wake your baby up. Sleeping is the best way to photograph newborn babies. Don’t worry or stress if your baby happens to wake up during the session, it’s okay!
Clothing and Props
I do not recommend clothing for newborns during their session. It is best to have them in a diaper and swaddled in a blanket. I will bring along several props to use during the session. To personalize your session, you are welcome to include any of your own special blankets, hats, bows or other props. Please have those ready when I arrive. For parents or any other siblings being photographed, I recommend wearing light colored clothing. Avoid any busy prints or patterns that might be distracting.
